Nichibutsu Crazy Climber to JAMMA Adapter

Description

Allows you to use your Nichibutsu Crazy Climber arcade board in a JAMMA cabinet or a super gun device.

Crazy Climber was released by Nichibutsu in 1980. It was licensed to Taito for US manufacture and distribution. It was Nichibutsu’s most successful game of this period and the first to introduce climbing mechanics in a video game. Another unique feature of this game is the 2 joystick controls used to move the player limbs to climb the skyscraper.

This adapter handles the unique controls in two ways. One, is to use player 1 and player 2 joysticks for single player controls, or two, the right joystick is replaced by buttons, the direction of which is dictated by the typical position of the buttons on the control panel. See the pinout section for more details. The control scheme can be changed using the jumpers on the adapter.

Crazy Climber as well as other Nichibutsu games of that period, especially those with unusual controls, have unique pinouts. This adapter therefore, works only with this one game.

Note: In joystick mode (set via jumpers) the Player 2 joystick is used as Player 1 right joystick and only 1 player controls are valid. In button mode, 4 JAMMA buttons can be used to control the right limb, directions being buttons 1, 2, 3 and 4 triggering the left, up, right, and down directions respectively. This allows for full 2 player controls on 2 player cabinets.
