JAMMA to Universal (Mr. Do) Cabinet Adapter

Description

Allows you to play your JAMMA games in your Universal (Mr. Do, etc… ) cabinet.

Universal Entertainment, not to be confused with the American film studio, is a Japanese arcade and pachinko manufacturer. They’re mainly known for for their Mr. Do series of games, which were fairly popular in Japan and North America.

Many, but not all of the games made by Universal output audio level signals which require an external sound amplifier to be present in the cabinet. Also, PCBs that belong to this conversion class, generate composite, separate horizontal and vertical video sync outputs.

This adapter includes a sound signal level attenuation circuit which can be adjusted or bypassed to work with cabinets with or without an onboard sound amp. For video however, only composite sync monitors are compatible with this adapter.

Please confirm the power requirements of your game and that the pinout matches the wiring of your cabinet in the relevant sections below. This is especially important for cabinets that have less than 2 buttons, one coin switch, or the rare chance that they have the original monitors that may be wired for separate sync.

Important (*): Horizontal and vertical SYNC is not connected. The monitor inside your cabinet may be wired only for separate horizontal and vertical sync (unlikely). You will need to modify your video wiring to also support composite sync.

Important: Your JAMMA game may not work correctly if it requires -5V power, not normally available in Universal cabinets.

Compatible Cabinets

This is the list of compatible game cabinets that can be used with this adapter:

Note: This adapter has two sound modes of operation:

Amp: Cabinet has an on-board amplifier. Adapter attenuates the sound levels. The pot adjusts the level of attenuation.

No Amp: Cabinet does not have an on-board amplifier. Attenuation circuit is bypassed and the ampilfied JAMMA PCB sound output is used.

Button and Switch Layout:

In most circumstances this adapter will work as intended with your cabinet without any modifications. Problems may occur playing some JAMMA games in a modified cabinet with less than 2 buttons, or only one coin switch present.

If the button order is wrong you may need to swap the wires going to the buttons behind the control panel. If a button doesn’t register at all, say only JAMMA button 2 works, you may need to run a jumper from button 2 to button 1 at the cabinet wire harness edge connector.

If the game can’t be coined up, say in a case where only COIN2 switch is wired in the cabinet, and the game only supports the COIN1 switch, you may need to swap the coin wires on the harness or potentially jumper them together to get the game to coin up.
