B-Wings to JAMMA Adapter

Description

B-Wings or Battle Wings, was a fairly ambitious shooter from Data East released in 1984. The PCB for this game is a massive 3 board stack sandwich which used multiple different CPUs, including a custom security CPU developed specifically for Data East. Several memory banks of no less than 4 different RAM chip types were required to draw the game’s three background layers and massive amounts of enemy sprites.

Compared to games that came out at around the same time, B-Wings was more technologically advanced due to its complex hardware. While it had interesting depth based game play mechanics and multiple power ups not found in other games at that time, that didn’t necessarily translate into a game that was fun to play.

B-Wings did however enjoy a fair amount of success In Japan. North America it is known more for its 1986 Famicom port found on imported bootleg Famicom multi game carts.

The arcade board pinout is similar to other DECO / Data East games from this period. but differs in how the power rails are connected.
